Rural Royalty

I was recently asked to be a part of the panel for a “Little Miss & Mr” pageant in a little rural Texas town. It was awesome.

The first picture gives you a general idea of the layout. Registration for the pageant on the left, rattlesnake pit (no lie) on the right.

Next up, some shots of the pit. When the guy walked a snake over to my direction, I took off. I’m not that country. (Yet.)

Hot tip: when participating in pageants with 4 and 5 year olds, expect a lot of awkward silence. Perhaps even stress-induced narcolepsy.

Finally, enjoy the winners. And take the winners’ moms in stride, even if they will not move out of the way to give you ONE clear shot.

*Eye roll*

  1. Have you ever seen a pageant book? Little girls on the pageant track here have album/scrapbooks about their triumphs.
For some reason I find this creepier than the actual pageants.

  2. Snake pits and pageant moms: yes, you are in rural Texas. 😉

But then, you also get BBQs and southern charm.

Glad you had a good time… on your way to “country.”
