Day 19 → What do you think of religion? Or what do you think of politics?

I think I would rather have religion than politics any day.

To me, religion seems to attempt to come to some point. Often, it is a wildly misguided and seriously problematic attempt. But the intent matters. I think religion gets a bad rep. Yes, at its worst, it is simply an opiate. But at its best it is a beautiful symbol of ideals, loves, hopes, and the basic human need and belief in a higher power.

Politics isn’t any of that, as far as I’m concerned. At the very best, good politics break even. The worst of politics includes personal attacks, encourages ugliness, and promotes distrust and disgust. There’s nothing about the beauty and courage of human nature apparent in politics.

Church over town hall, always. We learn more, do more, become more on our knees than on our asses. Always.

  1. The things you dislike about politics are the things I dislike about politics AND religion. Too much of the ugliness I hear comes from people claiming a religious agenda. As a Christian I find that incredibly frustrating.

What do you think?
